BRDM-2B M97 Żbik-B is a one of the development variants  of combat reconnaissance/patrol vehicle, which were a result of BRDM-2's Polish modernization program in Wojskowe Zakłady Mechaniczne (Siemianowice Śląskie). Żbik means “wildcat”.

Previous version, the BRDM-2M96i was transitional variant for the target vehicle marked in codename Żbik. Five-crew Żbik is one of the most famous examples of Warsaw Pact's weaponry successful modernization carried out in Poland. The vehicle is equipped with modern digital radio station RRC-9500 (PR4G family) from Thales and digital intercom system. New transmission with transfer case and the strengthening of drive shafts, new independent power steering and dual-circuit brakes. In addition, it's equipped with Deugra anti-fire protection system, ZPD-2/4 additional power source (generator), and 90DW heater. Supplemented with specialized equipment: UNZ-20 inertial navigation system with a GPS receiver, Taifos AAS-1 (device to recognition contamination), protection system against WMD and fume exhaust.  In addition, the vehicle may take an additional armament for 2-3 soldiers consists of 60 mm mortar LM-60K (12 rounds), anti-tank grenade launcher RPG-7 (10-round), 7.62 mm PKM machine gun (1400 rounds), “wz. 78” 26 mm flare gun hand grenades (18 pcs.) and LNS laser rangefinder. Żbik-B also received a new tower, different from the previous one, oval in cross-section. It's larger than its predecessor, with a flatter profile. Vehicle is equipped with a day-night sighting system CDN-1 and PNK-72 passive night observation devices drivers (alternating with TNP-A daily devices), rotating day-night observation commander device (mounted on the roof of the hull before the commander's hatch), SSC-1A Obra laser radiation warning system integrated with the two sets of Cytryny (lemons) 81 mm smoke grenade launcher. On the tower is mounted NSW 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and Fagot antitank guided missiles launcher.
